Come September 1st, Foke Will Launch Free Wi-Fi in Jakarta
Jakarta – Approaching gubernatorial election day for Jakarta Special Capital Territory (DKI Jakarta), Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo or more commonly known as Foke, continues to maneuver through provincial government programs. Starting from September 1st, Foke will launch free Wi-Fi at some locations in Jakarta.
“Perhaps it’s good news, starting from September 1st and along the route between Bank Indonesia water fountain to Senayan and along S. Parman street from Grogol to Cawang, internet users can freely use Wi-Fi,” said Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo at the city hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta on Monday Aug 27, 2012.
According to him, the free Wi-Fi will be built using fiber optics and hotspots. According to Foke, so far free Wi-Fi is only available in Monas, Menteng Park, Ayodya Park and several busway stops.
“Now it’s only available in Monas, Menteng Park, Ayodya Park, busway stops at Harmoni and Dukuh Atas. But later in early September, on we will create additional hot spots all along the way for the public to use [the internet],” said the governor who is re-nominating himself [for re-election].
With regards to how much funding was disbursed in his latest program this time around, Foke answered that it was only in the form of compensation from the fiber optic company. “It was only compensation from the fiber optic because we gave the permit to the fiber optic [operators],” he explained.
Then why is it only launched ahead of the round two Jakarta governorship election?
“So do we want Jakarta to move forward or backward? Essentially it’s been [the project has been under development for] a while. Don’t have perverted thoughts only, fasting period [Ramadan] has just recently passed,” said Foke lightly.

Wow. It will get easier for us to give our support for Mr. Jokowi. Thank you Grandpa Foke hehe. Oh, by the way, they have free Wi-Fi in Solo already..
[Note: Foke’s competition Jokowi is the mayor of Solo].
Anggit Wahyugo:
I don’t care who the governor is as long as there’s no traffic and flooding in Jakarta.
sopoyo:
Well this is a copycat program. Solo city already had it first. Maybe [Foke] is diligent in cheating the other candidate’s programs. Hahaha. Now we know that he loved to cheat during his school years.
deltax3:
What happened to the allegation against Foke for corruption by Priyanto? It’s perhaps the first time ever a governor has been reported by the deputy for corruption. Isn’t that such an embarrassment? ;p
Andrew:
Thank you, Foke, for making it easier for us to communicate and give our support to Jokowi and Ahok. Viva New Jakarta. March forward Jokowi Ahok.
vera_2000:
THIS IS ONLY FOR PUTTING ON A GOOD APPEARANCE FOR THE SECOND ROUND OF THE ELECTION!! FREE WI-FI? EVEN IF THE BUSWAY WERE TO BECOME FREE, FOKE WON’T SUCCEED SINCE HE’S NOT SINCERE IN GIVING IT. THERE ARE STRINGS ATTACHED..!! WE, JAKARTANESE, ARE ALREADY FED UP WITH YOUR DECEPTIONS.
dn13lz:
It’s good that you’re motivated in executing the programs AT THE END of your leadership.
sharing:
Foke’s martial art technique is only temporary. After his wishes come true, he will forget about everything and go straight back to his habit of forgetting his promises, not finding a solution, and only being capable of getting angry.
tjondrowahyudi:
Where are those who often accuse Jokowi of doing things only to put up appearances? Foke is also doing this for appearance but there’s no quality in it. Free Wi-Fi? Why not Free CONDOMS as well?
hms71:
Ouchhh ouchhhhh. Where have you been all this time? Thinking about Wi-Fi now? The Jakartanese public doesn’t need you anymore. Do you get it? The public now needs JOKOWI. Not Wi-Fi! Do you get it? Tisk tisk tisk tisk Mister …. Think with your brain. Shameless.
tikusakrobat:
Haha I suspect it will be activated only for a month. After that it will crash and get turned off. We know your campaign trick.
Menot’z Orad:
Political strategy.
Shimon Baryadi:
Building a better Jakarta. Viva Jokowi.
Ary Sugiarto:
Too late, sir. Only now you get busy. Where were you during those other days?
sunbokong:
We don’t have the Wi-Fi yet but the comments are already everywhere. IT IS JUST A PLAN TO INSTALL WI-FI. No need to be rash.
kohhoho:
SO THE PROBLEM IS THE POOR JAKARTANESE PEOPLE DON’T HAVE SMARTPHONES THAT SUPPORT WI-FI, LET ALONE LAPTOPS. THEN HOW ARE THEY GOING TO ACCESS IT? TOO BAD FOR THOSE POOR PEOPLE.
azerdwi:
I bet the connection will be slow. Will have to wait for 1 hour to open Google.
What do you think of this free Wi-Fi program in Jakarta? Is this just a desperate last minute trick for Foke to gain votes for the second round of election on September 20, 2012? Or do you think the free Wi-Fi launching date is just a coincidence?
