From Tempo:
Jakarta, the Most Active Twitter City in the World
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -It’s no longer a secret that Indonesia is one of the most talkative countries on Twitter, but do you know that Jakarta is the most active Twitter city worldwide?
This was excerpted from the technology website TechCrunch, Thursday, August 2, 2012, which showed data analysis done by Paris-based analyst group Semiocast.
Semiocast took 27% of all tweets sent from all over the world as a sample and analyzed it further for each city. As a result, the capital city of Indonesia [Jakarta] was at the top, representing 2% of all tweets, followed by Tokyo and London.
Interestingly, Bandung [capital city of West Java Province] also appeared in 6th place, one position below New York, but still managing to beat the world’s other major cities such as Paris, Los Angeles, Chicago, Singapore and Seoul<.
Indonesia ‘achievements’ didn’t stop here. Currently, Indonesia is one of the top five countries in terms of Twitter users with 29.4 million user accounts, which is very close to the United Kingdom at number four with 32.2 million user accounts.
Nevertheless, Indonesia still has a chance to overtake the United Kingdom’s position because the growth rate in terms of the number of users is faster than the 2012 Olympic Games host country. The United States continues to occupy first place with 141.8 million users, which is equivalent to 27.4% of the social networking site’s total users. Moreover, this research also mentions that Twitter currently has about 517 million user accounts.
